Larry Allen recalled his first date with his wife

During his Hall of Fame enshrinement speech, Larry Allen recalled his first meeting with his wife, Janelle, and the moment he knew he wanted to marry her.

He told the crowd: “On our first date, she cooked for me.

“I knew then, that was my wife right there.”

Push into the spotlight

Just four games into his rookie season, Allen found himself thrust into the starting lineup when Mark Tuinei experienced back spasms during a game against the Washington Redskins.

His performance earned him the game ball, as it helped keep the Redskins sack-free throughout the game.

Making his NFL debut at left tackle in place of the injured Tuinei against the Arizona Cardinals, Allen became the first rookie offensive lineman to start for Dallas since November 24, 1991, when Erik Williams started at right tackle against the Redskins.

After briefly returning to a backup role, Allen’s fortunes changed drastically when Williams suffered injuries in a car accident on October 24, sidelining him for the remainder of the season.

Allen subsequently took over permanently as the starter at Williams’ right tackle, beginning with a game against Cincinnati on October 30.
