The former first-round pick out of Arizona State is entering the final year of his rookie contract after the 49ers activated his fifth-year option.

By choosing to miss practice, Aiyuk is expected to rack up just over $104,000 in fines over the next three days, according to NBC Sports. Matt Maiocco.

Mandatory minicamp is scheduled to run through Thursday, June 6th.

Aiyuk’s contract dispute comes on the heels of several wideouts putting pen to paper on major new deals.

Recent deals include AJ Brown’s deal with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $96 million over three years and Amon-Ra St. Brown’s deal with the Detroit Lions worth $120 million over four years.

Most recently, Justin Jefferson became the league’s highest-paid non-quarterback when he signed a new four-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings worth $140 million.

What could make this decision difficult for the 49ers is that not only do they have a decision to make regarding Aiyuk’s future, but question marks also remain surrounding teammate Deebo Samuel.

The 28-year-old’s three-year extension is set to expire after the 2025 season.

Notably, his contract also includes a potential exit after next season.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Samuel said he was giving Aiyuk all the advice he could.

‘It went south out of nowhere,’ says Tank Dell as Houston Texans star talks about mass shooting that left him hospitalized

“He’s done a tremendous job throughout his career here and when it comes to things like this it gets difficult, and some things you take personally and overall it’s a stressful process,” he added.

Exactly what “stuff” Aiyuk may have taken personally is unclear.

Asked if Aiyuk not participating in a mandatory session changed his opinion of him and his status within the team, coach Kyle Shanahan said: “To me, it doesn’t change anything.

“You find out when guys are in these situations, when they come or don’t come and some guys come because they want to avoid a fine and others don’t.
