Patrick Mahomes was left in hysterics after his throw during Chiefs practice caught the attention of baseball star Matt Waldron

KANSAS City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is looking to build on his baseball experience ahead of the 2024 NFL season.

The 28-year-old three-time Super Bowl champion is the son of former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes and a 2014 draft pick by the Detroit Tigers.

But although Mahomes has left his baseball career behind, he clearly hasn’t forgotten his pitching skills.

During Wednesday’s mandatory minicamp, the two-time NFL MVP was captured trying to throw a football punch to backup quarterback Chris Oladokun.

Mahomes’ bizarre rant spread quickly on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the Chiefs Asking“How is his shape, [Kansas City Royals]?”

“I’m trying to learn the knuckleball [Matt] Waldron guy [San Diego] Padres pitches,” Mahomes explained in a retweet along with a series of laughing emojis.

Fortunately for Mahomes, Waldron later offered some advice.

“Just one more MVP touch. Don’t give the receivers too much trouble!” he he said.

Mahomes later reshared Waldron’s response, after which another X user shared a side-by-side comparison of the two arguments.

“Disgusting!!!!” Mahomes he said of the unflattering clip, again accompanied by a trio of laughing emojis.

Fans, however, saw more than just shades of Waldron in Mahomes’ play.

“My man trying to be like Nestor Cortez,” wrote one fan.

“Cueto’s leg kick with the Matt Waldron Knuckleball?? I like that,” said a second.

While ex Chiefs defensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz joked“Hideo Nomo mixed with a Johnny Cueto shimmy.”

As for one San Francisco 49ers fan, with the Super Bowl LVIII loss to Mahomes and Co. still clearly lingering, he added: “Mahomes will recreate that play in the next Superbowl, in overtime, down by 5, with 3 seconds left , for a touchdown. – A sad 49er fan.

The Chiefs will conclude their offseason schedule with the final day of mandatory minicamp on Thursday before the summer break.

Next up will be the training camp, which should start in mid-to-late July.

Kansas City’s preseason schedule will begin Aug. 10 at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Home games against the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears follow to close out the preseason.

The Chiefs will host the season opener on September 8 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Mahomes and Co. hope this season they can become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
