Kelly, wife of LOS Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, opened up about their unorthodox start as a couple.

The Staffords met at Georgia, where Matthew starred for the Bulldogs from 2006 to 2008, and Kelly for the cheerleading squad.

Exactly when they became official is unclear.

However, in a recent appearance on the Off The Vine podcast, Kelly revealed that Matthew was initially interested in keeping their relationship casual.

“It wasn’t such a cute relationship at first,” she admitted.

“I hated him, I loved him. I dated the backup [quarterback] irritate him – which worked.”

During his three years with the Bulldogs, Stafford was supported by Joe Tereshinski III, Joe Cox and Logan Gray.

Exactly who Kelly dated before Matthew she didn’t specify on the podcast.

Of the aforementioned backup, Kelly described him as “the bad boy”, while “Matthew is so sweet – a Southern gentleman, all that stuff.

“And the backup was completely the opposite and that upset him.”

Kelly explained that since Matthew and the backup lived in the same dorm, “he would see my car there.”

“And then, at one point, [Matthew] I waited and he followed me and I got in the car and didn’t want to get out.

“I was like, ‘This is amazing, it’s working!’ I was like, ‘Get out of my car!’ And he said, ‘He’s not right for you.'”

Matthew was drafted first overall in 2009 by the Detroit Lions.

He spent 12 seasons at Michigan, setting franchise records in passing yards (45,109) and touchdowns (282).

After just four winning seasons, Matthew was traded to the Rams in 2021 in exchange for former overall draft pick Jared Goff, along with two future first-round picks and a third-rounder.
