Good Morning Football is currently on hiatus for the summer as it moves filming locations from New York to Los Angeles.

McCourty’s co-stars Jamie Erdahl and Kyle Brandt have already confirmed they will return in the fall.

But former NFL star McCourty has decided to leave the show and the network.

He said SI Media with Jimmy Traina the move to the West Coast was not prepared to make with a young family.

“Other than the selfish ambition within the industry to further my career, I couldn’t find a good reason to move my wife and three children out of New Jersey,” McCourty said.

“Quality of life, not being like a husband and father, not just co-hosting a show, like keeping all those plates spinning at the same time, would also be a challenge. “

McCourty currently calls NFL games for CBS Sports and is in talks with the network about his role next season, per Barrett Sport.

But he admitted it was a “shock” when NFL Network announced GMFB’s western location change.

“When this news arrived in early March [that] at the end of March will be our last show in New York, originally, you know, like anyone, you’re like, ‘Screw it, I’m not going to L.A.’

“I think as time went on, the realization was, ‘I really love the show. I love being around the people involved in the program.

“Even above us, it was a shock for them to try to figure out how to keep the show going.

“To them, they looked at it like, ‘Hey, LA is a way to keep our show going and Good Morning Football.’

“So the hope I guess was that the four of us would pick up the pieces and put it all together and figure it out.

“But yes, it was a shock for all of us.

“In this industry, I’m quickly discovering that, just like in football, you don’t know what’s behind door number 2.”

NFL Network producers reportedly considered Manti Te’o and Akbar Gbajabiamila as potential replacements for McCourty, for Atlético.

The show is currently on hiatus, but is scheduled to return on September 1st.

“The only realization I’ve had is that everyone is replaceable,” McCourty added.

“We all like to think of ourselves in this unique way and how special and talented we are.

“I’m not naive to think they won’t be able to find someone better than me and get on with it.”
