KANSAS City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has reservations about following in Tom Brady’s footsteps.

The 28-year-old three-time Super Bowl champion may only be seven years into his NFL career, but he already seems well aware of the time.

Father of two young children along with his wife Brittany – Sterling Skye, three, and Patrick ‘Bronze’ Lavon III, one – Mahomes is clearly interested in ensuring that as his children grow up, he is an ever-present figure in their lives .

“I looked, if I played until Tom’s age, my daughter would be 19, 20,” he said Time after being named one of the 100 most influential people.

Brady spent 23 years in the NFL, playing until age 45 before calling it quits in February 2023.

While he admits he would “love to play” as long as Brady can, the prospect of missing important events from Sterling’s childhood is something Mahomes clearly wants to avoid.

“At the same time, I want to be there for my daughter,” Mahomes explained.

“If I can do that, I’ll keep playing. But if I feel like it’s taking away from my family time, I’ll know it’s time to go.”

Mahomes and Brady are often compared to each other due to their astronomical levels of success at a young age, not to mention the consistency with which this has been continually achieved.

Despite not yet having completed a decade in the NFL, Mahomes is already one of five quarterbacks to have won at least three Super Bowls and one of only three players in league history to have been named Super Bowl MVP three times.

But while Mahomes may seemingly have success in the NFL down to a simple science, Brady’s scientific approach is frightening even to players like the Chiefs star.

“Tom has twisted people’s brains about how hard this is to do because of how well he takes care of his body,” he said.

‘Messi doesn’t know who this guy is’, fans joke as Inter Miami star meets Patrick Mahomes ahead of MLS clash

‘So I’m about to ditch this dad bod if I want to play until I’m 45.’

And his praise for the former New England Patriot didn’t stop there.

When it comes to the topic of NFL greats, as far as Mahomes is concerned, he still has a long way to go if he wants to be considered one of the select few.

While he believes he has “had at least one of the three best starts of his career,” he doesn’t see himself breaking into the game’s upper echelon of greats just yet.

'If I feel like it's taking time away from my family, I'll know it's time to go,' admitted Mahomes

“You have to build a consistent career,” explained Mahomes

“You see that in any sport. I had a great race. I think I’ve done a great job so far.”

“But it’s hard to deduce what Tom did for so long, what Peyton Manning did, or Aaron Rodgers.

“There are so many guys, they have been at such a high level for so long.

“To be in that conversation, you have to do it year after year.

“You can’t assume you did this the year before.”

The 2024 season could go a long way toward securing Mahomes’ status as a great player if he wins Super Bowl LIX.

In doing so, the Chiefs would become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls – having already become the first back-to-back winners since Brady’s Patriots in 2003-2004.

A fourth title would also make Mahomes one of four quarterbacks to achieve that feat.
