The Detroit Lions announced Monday the induction of Johnson into the team’s Ring of Honor.

Lions COO Mike Disner and Lions radio announcer Lomas Brown revealed that the retired six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver would be added to the team’s ring of honor, the Pride of the Lions.

Johnson heard the News during its second annual Calvin Johnson Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic at the Detroit Country Club.

The 38-year-old wiped tears from his eyes as he shared his reaction to the announcement.

“I’m a whiny man… I got that from my dad,” Johnson said in front of fans.

He then sat with Adams during his Up & Adams Show and even showed his emotions.

She asked Johnson how he felt about the honor.

“It’s a tear-jerker,” Johnson said as he wiped away a tear.

“I don’t like surprises for that reason. You can take me and my emotions.

“I didn’t expect this to happen.

“It is an honor to be celebrated by my peers and the city of Detroit.”

Adams then mentioned that Johnson was inducted into NFL Hall of Fame in 2021 and asked “What makes Detroit honoring you a little special?”

“I’ve been to so many cities. Detroit, they have a real fan base,” he said.

“Not only for soccer but for baseball It is hockey.

“They are Detroit fans through and through and if you come to this city and get down and work hard, they [will] I love you.

“They pay attention.”

Johnson was selected second overall in the 2007 NFL Draft.

He was a three-time All-Pro for the Lions and was the all-time leader in three receiving categories, finishing with 731 receptions for 11,619 yards and 83 touchdowns.

The star would be nicknamed Megatron for his seemingly supernatural abilities.

Johnson will be honored during the halftime ceremony of Detroit’s Sept. 30 Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks.
