The Kansas City Chiefs have made some new additions to their wide receiver corps, and Patrick Mahomes is warning it will be tough.

Wide receiver has easily been the Chiefs’ biggest weakness since Tyreek Hill left for the Miami Dolphins, but they’ve made some moves to bolster the position this season.

Travis Kelce has been Mahomes’ most reliable pass catcher, but he plays the tight end position.

Before this offseason, the Chiefs released players like Rashee Rice, Justin Watson, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore.

None of these players surpassed 1,000 yards on the season, including Kelce.

This year, the Chiefs are investing in their pass-catching group in hopes of eliminating that weakness.

They signed wide receiver Marquise Brown to a one-year, $7 million contract to bring some veteran experience to the position.

Brown has 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns in his five-year career between the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals.

Alongside Brown, the Chiefs used their first-round pick to draft Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Worthy is a physical specimen and was the fastest player in the 2024 draft class, but Mahomes made sure to let him know that nothing will come easy for him during the draft process.

“There is no flexibility,” Mahomes told Fox Sports.

“He’s going to have to be ready to go. We have a lot of competition in this offense.

“He’s had a lot of mental work these past few weeks during OTAs and minicamp, but it’s time to go now.”

Worthy was selected with the 28th pick in the draft, and his 4.21-second 40-yard dash set the new record for fastest at the NFL Combine.

Chiefs players seem to have high expectations of him.

“We’re going to push him to the limit and prepare him to be ready for the season,” Mahomes continued.

“That’s not just him. It’s everybody and everybody has to have that mentality when they come into camp.”

Worthy seems prepared for the task, sharing that he knows what he needs to do during this year’s camp.

“I definitely feel like there’s no time to alleviate this. Everything is fine,” he said.

Worthy had a stellar year for Texas in 2023, recording 1,014 yards and five touchdowns in a season that culminated with a berth in the College Football Playoff.

In his three-year career at Texas, Worthy accumulated 2,811 yards from scrimmage and 26 total touchdowns.
