Stafford was on track to possibly hold out in Los Angeles training camp.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported in June that Stafford had issues with his current contract and the lack of guarantee money after the 2024 campaign.

McVay confirmed to reporters on Tuesday that Stafford and the Rams have agreed to a new contract, and the two-time Pro Bowler appeared at practice.

“I’m relieved,” McVay said, for NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The 38-year-old man also said that the negotiation process was carried out in a “healthy” way for everyone.

McVay shared that the deal is not a contract extension and is simply a rehash of the final years of Stafford’s deal.

Stafford signed a four-year, $160 million extension with Los Angeles following the 2022 Super Bowl title.

However, the last two years of the deal have no guaranteed money.

After an injury-plagued 2022, Stafford put together a Pro Bowl season in 2023, completing 62.6 percent of his passes for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 15 games.

He led the Rams to the playoffs, where they lost to the Detroit Lions on Super Wild Card weekend.

Stafford reported for OTAs, mandatory minicamps, and was a full participant in the Rams’ offseason program.

He did not speak to the media during the spring.

Still, McVay continued to say he wanted to keep discussions with Stafford “internal” until they resolved the situation.

“It meant a lot because I felt like there was a lot of work to be done,” McVay said Tuesday of Stafford’s training camp appearance, per The Orange County Register.

“I thought we were able to make a lot of progress as a team and Matthew was certainly an important part of that.”

McVay was also asked if there was a chance Stafford would hold out during training camp if teams didn’t rework his contract.
