Gallup signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the organization in late April.

Since then, he has participated in OTAs and minicamps in Las Vegas, where he was expected to compete for the WR3 role.

Gallup was unexpectedly placed on the reserve/retired list by the Raiders on Tuesday, according to a roster update in X.

The former Dallas Cowboys star has not publicly addressed the reason for his retirement.

Disappointed fans were surprised to see their new wide receiver abandon football before taking a single photo in a Raiders uniform.

“Aaaand the season ended just like that,” wrote a disgruntled Raider on X.

“Gallup retired before he played a wink,” wrote another, adding a broken heart emoji.

“Michael Galluping off into the sunset,” laughed a third.

“3-14 coming up,” sighed a fourth.

Taking a look at the 2024 NFL schedule

Gallup was a third-round pick out of Colorado State to the Cowboys in 2018.

He started 8 games in his rookie season, catching 33 passes for 507 yards and 2 touchdowns as Dallas reached the divisional round of the playoffs.

The Atlanta native put up career numbers a year later, recording his first and only season with 1,000 receptions.

He has remained a reliable member of quarterback Dak Prescott’s receiving corps despite an ACL injury in 2021.

Gallup signed a five-year, $57.5 million contract in 2022, but his production dried up after the emergence of CeeDee Lamb.
