JERRY Jones has resorted to a bizarre comparison to explain the Dallas Cowboys’ current contract conundrum.
The Cowboys find themselves in the unenviable position of having minimal cap space with three major contracts to negotiate.

Both quarterback Dak Prescott and wideout CeeDee Lamb — who is currently out of training camp — will be signed for free after next season.
Meanwhile, linebacker Micah Parsons is also looking for a new contract as he enters the fourth year of his rookie contract.
If that wasn’t enough, uncertainty also looms over the Cowboys coaching staff as head coach Mike McCarthy enters the final year of his contract.
When asked about the issue during Wednesday’s press conference in Oxnard, Calif., Jones decided to take an unusual approach — unexpectedly involving Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — in explaining his stance on the matter.
“In my life, I’ve played option quarterback so many times and waited until the last leaf on the tree,” Jones said.
“If you want to imagine a purely option quarterback coming out onto the field, I ran the ball and guarded it and didn’t give it to the [running] back, I didn’t throw it back, I didn’t play it, and I put that thing aside before making the decision.
“As I didn’t get what I needed, it wasn’t right for me to make the decision.
“And so what our fans are seeing, what we’re dealing with, is that we’re biding our time.

“We’re option quarterbacks and we’re going to the sideline, and we don’t hand it off, we don’t throw it.
“We’re trying to decide [with] what to do? Does this sound like Mahomes to you? A little?”
Jones continued to reiterate that at this point, they are simply waiting for the next leaf to fall.
During the press conference, Jones also took the opportunity to reinforce that he remains “all-in” on the 2024 Cowboys – a line that had previously proven divisive.
This phrase once again proved unpopular with X fans.
“All in, not re-signing your three best players,” wrote one.
“All in what?? Losing your stars??” she asked for a second.

However, while it may take longer than fans would like, it is still possible to reach agreements with all three.
Stephen Jones, Dallas’ executive vice president, added that both Lamb and Parsons aim to become the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in the world. NFL.
That would mean surpassing Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson’s four-year, $140 million contract.
As noted by Jones, this type of cap was easier for Minnesota to manage given that they currently don’t have an expensive quarterback on their roster.
And while he remained apparently optimistic that deals could still be reached, he repeatedly commented that their desire was to “work reasonably” with their stars “to make it work.”
