The San Francisco 49ers are in for more contract drama following their ongoing saga with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
49ers left tackle Trent Williams will miss training camp due to contract issues.
San Francisco was missing two players from its first practice of training camp on Wednesday.
Aiyuk was only seen at the facility and did not practice, which is called hold-in.
However, Williams did not attend camp and is holding out because of issues with his contract, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters.
“It was something that I knew could be a possibility and I was hoping he would be here,” Shanahan said Wednesday, per ESPN.
“But I knew it could be a possibility and I was pretty confident that everything would work out in the long run and that he would be here and we would be on the same page with everything.
“But it’s just one day of practice, and I think Trent will be fine missing a few practices.”
On Thursday, the 49ers signed wide receiver Malik Turner and placed Williams on the reserve/non-reporting list on Thursday.
The 36-year-old will now be subject to a $50,000 fine for every day he fails to attend training camp.
