FIRST TAKE host and Stephen A. Smith stand-in Dan Orlovsky dropped a hot take during his appearance on Tuesday.
While sitting in Stephen A’s seat, Orlovsky criticized the New York Jets for their quarterback situation.
The Jets traded for quarterback Aaron Rodgers ahead of the 2023 season, but have yet to reap the rewards.
“Three or four years ago, when Aaron Rodgers wanted out of Green Bay, it was ‘oh my God, which teams are in the right situation to sign a quarterback?’” Orlovsky said.
“Then the acquisition happens for Aaron Rodgers and everyone is like, ‘This is the Jets’ roll of the dice.’
“We all felt like the Jets were a really good squad at that point, and I know they beefed up the offensive line, but they were a really good offense at that point.
“Joe Douglas, who’s the general manager, said ‘no, no, no, I’m going to sign a quarterback now because we feel like we’re a quarterback away.’
Rodgers was injured in the first week of the 2023 season and is hoping for a deep playoff run with him healthy this year.
However, Orlovsky is warning the Jets that they may be regretting his trade if the team doesn’t make a run at the championship in 2024.
“I compare it a little bit to the Russell Wilson situation,” Orlovsky continued.

“The Russell Wilson trade to the Denver Broncos is widely viewed as one of the worst trades in NFL history.
“If this doesn’t work out for the Jets, this will be one of the worst trades in NFL history.
“The Jets traded for a guy who was an MVP-winning quarterback two out of three years. If you don’t get anything for this, it will go down on Joe Douglas’ resume as a complete disaster.
“This is one of the best defenses the Jets have in the NFL. You will waste Sauce Gardener. You’re going to waste Quinnen Williams. You’re going to waste some of that defensive talent.
“Garrett Wilson is one of the best receivers, I’m going to insist on that. If this doesn’t work out, we’re wasting the youth of some of these young talents.”
Rodgers is under contract for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, but is open about the possibility of retiring early if things don’t go well with the Jets.
Regardless of what Rodgers does, fans didn’t agree with Orlovsky’s analysis of the trade.
“In what world is giving up 0 first round picks to a former MVP a bad trade,” said one fan.
“Can we see a game with him healthy before we do that?” another fan said.
“This guy loves to play both sides of the argument. Choose a side, Dan,” said a third fan.
“This is ridiculous, lmfao. Among others, the Russell Wilson negotiation was much worse,” said a fourth fan.
