BALTIMORE Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has played down rumors he could become the NFL’s GOAT at his position, saying he remains Tom Brady.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said on the first day of training camp that his vision for Jackson would be remembered as the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

Jackson avoided that suggestion, though he clearly appreciates the coach speaking to him.

“I’m not the GOAT, Tom Brady is the GOAT. But I believe that’s motivation. I appreciate that from coach. I’m still on my way,” Jackson said.

“Keep doing what I’m doing, keep trying to get better, keep trying to win these games, keep trying to reach that goal.”

Brady continues to be the benchmark for all players in Jackson’s position.

In a remarkable career, Brady led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl triumphs.

He cemented that with a seventh Super Bowl late in his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is making strong claims that he too will one day be considered the GOAT.

The brilliant Mahomes helped the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories in five seasons.

But there’s no doubt that Jackson is also a formidable talent in the sport.

He was named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player twice, in 2019 and 2023.

And Harbaugh’s recent words about the player were truly impressive.

“The vision we have together is that Lamar Jackson will become known and recognized as the greatest quarterback to ever play in the history of the National Football League,” Harbaugh said.

“That’s the vision. It’s going to happen by Lamar, his work ethic and his brilliant talent, by all of us dedicating ourselves to this effort, together as a team, teamwork and by the grace of God and the good will of God.

“That’s how it’s going to happen. And I believe it as if we had already seen it.”

Of 16 games played in the 2023 regular season, Jackson threw for 3,678 yards with 24 touchdowns.

The Ravens were great that regular season, finishing 13-4.

But the campaign ended in bitterly disappointing fashion.

They had a comfortable Divisional Round victory over the Houston Texans.

But a week later, they lost 17-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
