At the clipMcCarthy can be seen under center and faking a handoff to running back.

McCarthy rolls to his right and hits a runaway wide receiver for a big gain as the fans in attendance celebrate.

User X captioned the post: “JJ McCarthy is the next Patrick Mahomes.”

“IT’S IMPOSSIBLE for teams to fire JJ with his speed and insane arm strength.

“JJ might already be a top 3 QB,” the user said, adding a fire emoji.

Fans rushed to the clip to share their thoughts on the user’s bold statement.

“Looked like mahomey icl,” one fan wrote, adding a fire emoji.

“I love anointing the guys in training,” replied a second.

“It’s practice that you can’t even remotely breathe on a QB without getting cut off,” commented a third.

“Why stopping in the top 3 gives him GOAT status,” joked a fourth.

“It’s training camp practice and he’s wearing a red no-hitter jersey. Accelerate the brakes, turbo,” said a fifth.

McCarthy was selected by the Vikings with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

McCarthy is a proven winner, leading Michigan over Washington 34-13 to win the College Football National Championship last season.

The former national champion played at Michigan for three years and played in 40 games.

In his college career, McCarthy completed 482 passes, threw for 6,226 yards and 49 touchdowns.

McCarthy still has a long way to go to reach Mahomes’ status, as the star has already secured two MVPs.

Mahomes has also completed 2,386 passes, thrown for 28,424 yards and passed for 219 touchdowns in his career thus far.

McCarthy’s selection comes after former Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins decided to sign a four-year, $180 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.

Although McCarthy was selected in this year’s draft by the Vikings, it is unclear whether he will begin the season as the team’s center.

McCarthy is expected to beat signal-caller Sam Darnold, who signed with the team in the offseason.

Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings in March.

The 2018 third overall pick spent his first three years in the NFL with the New York Jets before they were traded to the Carolina Panthers in 2021.

The following season, Darnold lost the starting quarterback job for the first time in his NFL tenure.

In 2023, the USC product signed a one-year contract with the 49ers to be Brock Purdy’s backup.

Darnold made 10 appearances for San Francisco, including one start.

The 26-year-old threw for 297 yards, two touchdowns and one interception last season.
