People will have to dig deep into their pockets to pay £1,000 to play the full 18 holes, which equates to £55 per hole.

If they are willing to play after 1pm the price drops to £545 to play at the Ailsa ground.

The course is 6,474 yards long and was the site of the 1977 duel between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus.

It was redesigned in 2016 by architect Martin Ebert and cost £200 million, two years after Trump bought the course.

However, golfers were furious about the price increases and took to social media to complain.

One golfer complained: “£1,000 for 18 holes. That’s over £55 a hole. Insanity.”

A second posted: “Glad I’ve played twice. It won’t be the third time.”

A third wrote: “Maybe an ‘open’ course should be open to everyone, not just the super rich.

“Maybe a maximum price, the value will be expensive, but that’s just exclusive, and not in a good way.”

A fourth commented: “In the UK where the weather can be horrible at the height of ‘summer’ it’s really hard to justify anything over £150-200.

“And even at those prices, they should be the best courses that the pros play on, etc.”

A fifth said: “Ooft. Played it shortly after it reopened in 2016 and it cost ‘only’ £250.”

Another added: “No golf course on the planet is worth half that price.

“But enough pints with more money than common sense will pay, thus giving the course owners a justification to continue charging these prices.”

The second Open held at the course was in 1986, when Australian golfer Greg Norman won by five strokes.

Eight years later, Zimbabwe’s Nick Price defeated Jesper Parnevik by a single shot.

The last Open played at the course was in 2009 and was won by Steward Cink, who took victory after a playoff against Tom Watson
