A PGA Tour event has been postponed after an alligator invaded the course.

Play was suspended at the Zurich Open in New Orleans, USA, after the reptile crossed the grass on the 17th hole.

Bronson Burgoon was preparing to tee off along with Camillo Vegas, Sam Stevens and Paul Barjon.

The alligator slowly made its way across the golf course – a familiar spot at Louisiana’s TPC golf course.

The commentator explained: “The time was announced at 5pm. So that particular creature has four legs.

“For a long time the legendary crocodile called Tripod was here, he has three legs, as you can imagine.

“There is another three-legged crocodile that was recently spotted on the route, but it is missing its left front leg, and Tripod was missing its right front leg.”

Fans found the interruption hilarious as players were left practicing their shots while they waited.

One said: “A crocodile crossing the tee box at the Zurich Classic”

Another added: “Put it on the watch now.”

A third wrote: “Don’t mind I’m just passing through.”

And another commented: “Still faster than half the Tour.”

Alligators are common on some courses in the US and last month one was seen swimming in the water at the Cognizant Classic in Florida.

A few weeks earlier, some unfortunate golfers were attacked by an angry alligator in Florida.
