NBC Sports has finally solidified its broadcast team for the upcoming US Open.

After searching for a replacement for Paul Azinger, NBC Sports hired Brandel Chamblee to temporarily take over the role.

Chamblee is paired with Dan Hicks in the tournament lineup as one of six broadcast duos.

He essentially auditioned with NBC in January, calling American Express for the network with Terry Gannon.

At the time, NBC was still looking for its top US Open analyst.

They ended up with the guy after an extensive search, and he’s joining a big team for the event.

The other broadcast pairs include Mike Tirico and Brad Faxon, Gannon and Notah Begay III, Steve Sands and Gary Koch, Rich Lerner and Curt Byrum, and Tom Abbott and Arron Oberholser.

These broadcast pairings will be complemented by on-course reporting from John Wood, Smylie Kaufman, Jim “Bones” Mackay, Roger Maltbie, Paige Mackenzie and Byrum.

Damon Hack and Kira K. Dixon will conduct player interviews.

NBC Sports is still working to replace Azinger, who left the network after refusing a pay cut.

Chamblee is just one of a handful of broadcasters who were considered for the role, including Mackay, Geoff Oglivy, Kevin Kisner and Luke Donald.

With the PGA Tour season already halfway over, NBC could opt to continue rotating analysts before hiring a full-time broadcaster for 2025.

Chamblee is certainly starting out as a top contender in his second tournament for the network.

He is certainly an attractive personality, frequenting social media and expressing his opinions confidently.

Chamblee has been highly critical of LIV Golf and constantly criticizes players who leave the PGA for LIV.

Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson and John Rahm were all the targets of Chamblee’s complaints.

He called the recent PGA-LIV merger “the saddest days in professional golf history” during a live appearance on NBC.

“When I first heard about this, I was completely shocked,” Chamblee said.

“After the shock wore off, I was extremely disappointed. I think this is one of the saddest days in the history of professional golf.

“I believe that social bodies, entities, professional entities sacrificed their principles for the sake of profit.”

The 2024 US Open will be held at Pinehurst Resort starting June 13.

The event will see Tiger Woods competing in another major tournament this year.
