SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER feels ready for the PGA Championship despite becoming a father for the first time last week.
The world number one has barely picked up a golf club since his Masters triumph last month.
He missed the Wells Fargo Championship last week – an important warm-up for the PGA – when his wife Meredith went into labor.
But Scheffler said he wouldn’t trade being with his wife for anything and has enjoyed the early days of fatherhood with son Bennett.
He said: “It took a little longer than expected for him to come, but I managed to do a good job of preparing.
“Obviously, it’s not my usual thing, with him being born in the middle of last week; I took a more significant break than I would have, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
“It was so fun to come home and spend some time with him and Meredith and just hang out and be a dad for a few days. It was a fun time at the Scheffler house, for sure.”
Scheffler, 27, has been nearly unbeatable in recent months, taking victory at Bay Hill and The Players in March, and at Heritage in April.
He earned his second green jacket at Augusta after a near miss and is confident he can be successful at Valhalla Golf Course if he stays focused.
The Texan added: “I just think mentally, being as present as I can, committed to my shots, not worrying about the outcome of things – just being committed to what I’m doing.

“I want to be as prepared as possible for an event, and being here today, I feel like I am as prepared as possible. I feel like my game is in a good place and I’m looking forward to competing this weekend.”
The two-time Major winner will be the man to beat once again at the PGA Championship, despite not playing in three weeks.
Scheffler will also be without caddy Ted Scott on Saturday if he makes the cut, as he will be attending his daughter’s graduation.
But Scheffler has always assured his salesman that family comes first and now he knows how difficult it is not to be with his son.
Scheffler added: “I couldn’t have imagined it would be like this and it’s so much fun.
“I miss him so much. It wasn’t easy leaving the house on Monday morning. But like I said, I told my son when I was leaving, I don’t want to leave you now, but I have to.
“I don’t really know how to describe it. Watching the little guy come out of Meredith, and we waited, and it was a surprise to us whether it was going to be a boy or a girl, so being able to tell my wife it was a boy, yeah, it was a wild ride.” .
“Extremely proud of Meredith [Scheffler’s wife] after seeing her go through it. It’s crazy. I’m glad she was the one who went through this and not me, because I don’t know if I could have done it.”
