SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER produced an incredible eagle from 167 yards on his first hole since becoming a father.

The 27-year-old American is back in action at Valhalla Golf Club for the 106th PGA Championship just days after his wife Meredith gave birth on May 8.

This led to him having three weeks off from golf to focus on his new arrival as some fans feared he might suffer from rust.

Scheffler has already made an incredible start to the 2024 season, with four wins in his last five, which includes his second Masters title.

And he dispelled any doubts about the opening hole in impressive fashion.

The star couldn’t contain his joy as a huge smile spread across his face as he greeted caddy Ted Scott, while fans on social media hailed his shot as being “unreal”, “completely incredible” and “scary”.

Previous reports have recounted how other players congratulated him when he arrived for a practice round in Valhalla.

LIV golfer Jon Rahm gave him a hug on the putting green and jokingly asked, “Did you sleep much?”

The world No. 1 announced on Instagram that he and Meredith welcomed their first child into the world on the eve of the event in Kentucky.

He did not reveal his gender or name, but the PGA Tour’s official website later confirmed it was a boy named Bennett.

Scheffler hadn’t played since winning the RBC Heritage at Harbor Town – that was just a week after claiming his second Masters green jacket.

He missed a key PGA warm-up at the Wells Fargo Championship last week when his wife went into labor.

Inside Scheffler’s romance with wife Meredith

But Scheffler said he wouldn’t trade being with his wife for anything and has enjoyed the early days of fatherhood with son Bennett.

He said: “It took a little longer than expected for him to come, but I managed to do a good job of preparing.

“Obviously, it’s not my usual thing, with him being born in the middle of last week; I took a longer break than I should have, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

“It was so fun to come home and spend some time with him and Meredith and just hang out and be a dad for a few days. It was a fun time at the Scheffler house, for sure.”

Xander Schauffele holds a three-shot lead after the opening round of the PGA Championship, while the other pre-tournament favorite, Rory McIlroy, is also off to a strong start despite his split with his wife Erica Stoll.

The 35-year-old filed legal documents with Florida courts on Monday to end his marriage after seven years.

Schauffele carded nine birdies in a brilliant bogey-free round that saw him post the first round 62 in PGA Championship history and just his fourth in a men’s major.

McIlroy started with a five-under 66, while Scheffler is five off the lead.

Meanwhile, Scheffler will play without his personal caddy Scott tomorrow in the third round of the PGA Championship.

He confirmed that Scott will leave Louisville on Friday night for family reasons.

His caddy will be absent from the PGA Championship because he will be attending his daughter’s high school graduation.
