NBA Today Follows Pat McAfee Show in Major Broadcast Change Caused by ESPN’s PGA Championship Coverage

ESPN host Pat McAfee’s self-titled show wasn’t the only program affected by ESPN’s coverage of the PGA Championship.

NBA Today and The Pat McAfee Show did not air on Friday as the network aired the iconic golf tournament.

With the NBA playoffs in full effect, ESPN made the surprising decision not to find a spot for NBA Today on Friday.

The popular NBA show is hosted by Malika Andrews along with several analysts including Kendrick Perkins and Chimey Ogwumike.

McAfee’s show, however, did not air on Thursday or Friday because of the PGA Championship that airs on ESPN.

The show was also completely off air for two days during The Masters last month.

While McAfee’s show airing for two days is a surprise, the show mostly dives into conversations about the NFL and professional sports’ off-season.

However, the fact that NBA Today is down comes at a time when the New York Knicks will face the Indiana Pacers in a Game 6 matchup on Friday night.

The Knicks won 3-2 in the series, with Jalen Brunson having an outstanding performance in Game 5, scoring 44 points in the victory in New York.

The popular show could also have discussed the Minnesota Timbwerwolves’ loss over the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night.

Minnesota beat the Nuggets 115-70 in Game 6 and forced Game 7 in Denver on Sunday.

But the topic of the day on Friday was the world’s No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, and his stunning arrest.

The spectacle delayed the start of the day’s First Take, as the golf star was detained by police officers after allegedly trying to pass them on his way to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

A fatal accident occurred early in the morning and police were directing traffic at the time.

Scheffler was handcuffed and transported to the Louisville Metropolitan Department of Corrections.

The 27-year-old was cleared and was able to prepare for his tee time at 10:08 a.m. ET in the second round of the PGA Championship.

However, Scheffler still faces four charges, according to a police report.

Scheffler broke his silence following his arrest on his Instagram Story.

“This morning, I was proceeding as directed by the police officers,” he wrote. It was a very chaotic situation, which is understandable considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a huge misunderstanding about what I thought I was being asked to do.

“I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hoping to put that aside and focus on golf today.”

Scheffler is currently -9 and four shots behind leader Xander Schauffele.
