The world’s number one golfer, Scottie Scheffler, became emotional during a moment of silence for a fellow golfer who died just days ago.

Scheffler covered his face with his hands during the tribute to Grayson Murray, the 30-year-old golf pro who took his own life on Saturday.

Both men were on the PGA Tour in Texas and Murray would play just two more holes in the Charles Schwab Challenge yesterday.

Instead, the players on the field took a moment to honor him after his family released an emotional statement confirming his suicide.

Heartbreaking footage showed Scheffler, who was arrested last week outside the PGA course, wiping his eyes in an emotional moment.

Just a day earlier, the golf pro said of Murray’s death: “Obviously the news hasn’t come in yet, but I’m thinking about his family and praying really hard for them all.

“I can’t imagine how difficult this moment is. I’ve gotten to know Grayson a little better over the last six months or so.

“There’s no way to put into words how sad and tragic it is, but I’m thinking about his family.”

The traditional silence is held annually for those who died serving in the U.S. military.

But it seemed to resonate with golfers, especially after Murray’s death.

Jim Nantz, legendary sportscaster, said, “There is a certain tradition here on Memorial Day weekend at Colonial, and this is a moment of silence on this special American holiday weekend.

“Let’s be honest, this day has a dual purpose.”

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said he was “speechless” to learn that the pro had died on Saturday morning.

Murray told playing partners he wasn’t feeling well before quitting.

His devastated parents, Eric and Terry Murray, said on Sunday: “We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone.

“It’s surreal that not only do we have to admit this to ourselves, but we also have to acknowledge it to the world.

“He was loved and will be missed.

“Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests in peace now.”

Murray bravely opened up about his mental struggles before his tragic death.

He once said that his parents went through “hell and back” with their problems of depression, anxiety and alcoholism throughout his career.

Murray was supposed to marry his fiancée, Christiana, this spring.

But Christiana was not mentioned in the statement released by Murray’s parents.

She has yet to make any public comments about his death.
