LEXI THOMPSON has announced she is retiring from golf at just 29 years old.

She retires with 15 titles won, having made her professional debut with just 12.

Her career will come to an end when this season ends, and she is currently preparing for the US Women’s Open.

The major, which begins Thursday, will be the 18th in his illustrious career.

Her Open debut came in 2007 at Pine Needles, when she held the record for the youngest woman to qualify.

She would set an LPGA record by winning the Navistar LPGA Classic at just 16 years old.

Both records have been broken, but they show how much of a pioneer she has been in the sport.

His game was famously powerful and this, combined with his young age during his discovery, helped inspire a whole new generation of fans to watch golf.

She would win 15 titles in total.

One of them was a big one, when she won the 2014 Kraft Nabisco tournament in Rancho Mirage, California.

Thompson has finished runner-up in majors on four occasions.

The most infamous of these saw her get penalized four shots in the final round of the 2017 Kraft Nabisco.

This was due to a code violation the day before.

She also blew a five-shot lead in the final round of the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open.

LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan paid tribute to Thompson in a statement.

She said: “Lexi’s impact goes far beyond the golf course.

“She embodies the spirit and dedication of our founders – always showing up and intentionally engaging to help further the growth and impact of the LPGA.

“She is loved by her fans, always seen signing autographs and interacting with them, regardless of the outcome that day.

“…On behalf of the LPGA, I want to thank Lexi for her incredible contributions to our Tour and to women’s golf.

“We wish her all the best in her next chapter and we, along with the fans, look forward to watching her compete and celebrate her throughout the rest of the season.”

The big winner also paid tribute to her fans for their support on social media.

She sent a video containing an open letter to her fans when announcing the end of her career.

She captioned the post on her Instagram: “Listen to the letter I wrote for the golf game.”

The emotional video showcased highlights from his career, including clips from his rookie season at just 12 years old.
