A DP World Tour CAMERA operator was rushed to hospital after being hit in the head with a golf ball.

Swedish pro Madelene Sagstrom saw her wayward shot on the 18th make every golfer’s worst nightmare of hitting an innocent bystander come true.

Sagstrom was playing in the Volvo Scandanavian Mixed tournament in Sweden when she found herself in a tight spot on the 18th hole.

The tricky shot left her too far away from the attack and facing a difficult task of getting the ball clean.

Unfortunately for her and a nearby cameraman, she didn’t hit the ball as expected and her shot went off line and hit the cameraman’s head.

The man immediately fell to the ground holding his face as the ball bounced back onto the field.

Sagstrom could be heard shouting, as is customary to warn spectators about deflected shots, but his efforts failed to alert the man as the ball was rapidly approaching his head in time.

According to the journalist Andy Robertsthe camera operator was taken straight to hospital after the incident.

About four hours after the accident, the man remained in the emergency room but was considered fine — just, unsurprisingly, suffering from a severe headache.

The moment was also costly for Sagstrom.

The 31-year-old had reached two-under-par 18th and was on track to make the cut for the weekend.

But thanks to her erratic shots, and no doubt shaken by the terrible accident, she ended up making a triple bogey on the final hole and finishing with +1.

That one-hole shot meant Sagstrom was ruled out of the event and headed home without much of a chance to hit the fairways over the weekend.

Both fans and camera operators are always at risk of being hit by a ball when getting so close to the action during golf tournaments.

A spectator was felled by Thriston Lawrence’s misjudged shot at the European Open last week.

While Max Homa almost saw his shot hit a fan’s head at the Players Championship in March.
