COLIN PRATER is swapping the classroom for the US Open tee box this weekend.
The high school biology teacher is scheduled to attend his third specialization of the year in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Prater beat more than 9,000 other competitors to qualify for the two-stage tournament.
His spot in the 156-player field was finally confirmed on June 3 after an event in Oregon.
Before Thursday’s opening round, he even completed a practice round with world number one Scottie Scheffler on Wednesday.
Scheffler won his second Masters green jacket in April and had more success this past weekend.
He earned his 11th PGA Tour victory at the Memorial Tournament to complete his US Open preparations.
Prater also played defending champion Wyndham Clark earlier in the week.
He and Clark previously paired up in an amateur event in 2016.
Speaking ahead of his US Open debut this week, Prater explained: “To be honest, I don’t know if that’s happened yet.
