MASTERS frontman Scottie Scheffler is ready to bend the rules to help him leave Augusta early – if his wife contacts him.
The world’s No. 1 “excited” priority is Meredith and the imminent birth of her first child.
And to keep him in touch during this big moment, the 27-year-old admitted that “someone has access to a phone” – which is a breach of Masters protocol.
Scheffler leads Callum Morikawa by one stroke and fellow American Max Homa by two strokes entering Sunday’s final round.
But he said: “Right now the most exciting thing is not winning the Masters, it’s the baby that will be born soon.”
And asked about an escape plan, he added: “I definitely have a way to get home really quickly.”
Scheffler then turned to an Augusta National member at the press conference and said, “We have someone here who has access to your cell phone.”
He confirmed: “Yes, I will be available to come home whenever I need.”
And asked if Meredith would make contact, he said: “She better call.”
The couple lives in Dallas, Texas, where they married in 2020 after six years of dating.
Scheffler’s only Major so far has been Augusta glory in 2022.
And he revealed that he “cried like a baby” because of the pressure at that time, when, as now, he led that tournament at the 54-hole mark.
But that’s nothing compared to the emotion he’s feeling right now.
Your first child, however, won’t be born for a few weeks.
Therefore, unlike 2022, Scheffler is hoping for two separate triumphs this time.
