TIGER WOODS could soon be named US Ryder Cup captain in 2025 – two years earlier than expected.
The golf legend has already been tipped for the Irish job in 2027 – due to his friendship with Adare Manor golf course owner and former Manchester United majority shareholder JP McManus.
But the 48-year-old 15-time Major winner is a strong candidate to lead his country at Bethpage Black on Long Island, New York, in September next year.
Woods even hinted that an announcement could be coming soon.
It follows a mixed Masters last week for the Californian, who overcame serious injuries, particularly back problems, to resume his high-level career.
Woods has set a cutting record at Augusta 24 consecutive times.
But he finished last of the remaining players with 16-over par.
His aggregate total of 304 was also the highest ever in 26 Masters matches – worse than the 301 he shot in four rounds in 2022.
And although he insists he is pushing hard for the other three majors, from May to July, it is off track where he can make his next big impact.
Woods ultimately avoided the question when asked about the Ryder Cup captaincy at Augusta.
He said he would renew discussions about the role with PGA of America CEO Steve Waugh after the Masters.
Woods explained: “We’re still talking about it.
“It’s something Seth and I are going to sit down and talk about after this event.”
Team USA is reeling from a 16.5-11.5 loss in Rome in 2023.
Unsurprisingly, Team Europe have now announced that Luke Donald has retained the captaincy, with Thomas Bjorn remaining as vice-captain.
