COLLEGE golf star Skylar Kew has been tipped to become the next Paige Spiranac thanks to her stunning selfies.
The Bethune-Cookman sophomore has developed a huge social media profile following her course efforts and epic bikini photos.
But behind the scenes, Kew overcame major obstacles to become one of the brightest stars in women’s college golf.
As a child, the Canadian underwent surgery to correct a heart defect that caused her heart to race four times faster than normal.
Kew knew he had a problem when he was talking to a friend at school.
“You know when your heart starts beating fast and you can’t slow down,” she said, Inside Halton.
“No,” her friend replied.
Kew spoke to his mother, who was a nurse, and discovered that his heart was beating an alarming 240 times a minute.
After seeing a cardiologist, Kew was diagnosed with a condition known as supraventricular tachycardia.
One of his symptoms was running out of energy on the last nine golf courses and getting out of breath when he ran.
She also slept much longer than normal for a child her age,
“When you look back, it explains a lot,” said his mother, Ena.
“She’s 13 years old, but she’s never seen midnight, not even on New Year’s.
“She slept 12 hours. She was tired, but she also never stops.
“We always thought, ‘OK, Skylar likes to sleep.’
Kew was given beta blockers which helped control his heart rhythm.
But she felt sluggish and didn’t want to take a substance banned in many sports.
Kew underwent two grueling surgeries – and then felt an immediate improvement in his first round of golf.
“I didn’t know what it was like to not feel tired,” Kew said.
Kew comes from an athletic family.
His father, Jason, is a professional golfer, while two cousins played in the National Lacrosse League.
And despite her medical problems, she continued her family’s illustrious sporting legacy, excelling in golf, lacrosse and hockey.
Kew was a standout golf star in Canada and earned a scholarship to Bethune-Cookman in Florida.
As a freshman, she finished third on the team with an average of 84.64.
She participated in 10 events throughout the season and placed third at the SWAC Birmingham Fall Invitational.
And she developed a newfound fame after being profiled on the social media site Campus Cuties.
Kew has even been compared to stunning golf influencer Paige Spirinac.
“Damn she’s 10,” said one fan.
“What a bombastic body,” said another.
“Bazinga!” a third noted.
