DONALD Trump is not used to anyone getting the better of him, least of all a humble Scottish farmer.

Michael Forbes became a household name across Scotland and beyond when he thwarted Trump by refusing to sell his home on the land of a luxury golf course that the then business tycoon wanted to build.

Forbes turned down Trump, offering him more than half a million dollars and an annual salary of $60,000.

Trump was known to be furious about this obstacle to his plans.

He insulted Forbes’ property, saying it would spoil the view from his new hotel.

Forbes responded that Trump can “take your money and shove it up his ass.”

At a press conference in 2010, Trump called Forbes’ house “disgusting” and “a pigsty.”

Neil Hobday, the project’s former director, said Trump’s comments about Forbes “changed everything” and created more opposition to the plans.

“His response was so impressive I thought I was having a nightmare,” Hobday said.

“He attacked Michael Forbes. I thought ‘This is shit, this ruined everything’.

“We got in the car to go to Aberdeen airport, where his plane was waiting.

“We didn’t say a word the whole way back. He knew he had messed up.

“Whatever is going on in Trump’s mind, no one can figure it out. I couldn’t believe he did that, I was shaking with rage.

“We almost had a perfect result until that outburst.

“If I were Michael Forbes, I would have reacted exactly the same way, I would have been furious to have been insulted like that.”

Trump International Golf Links opened in 2012, but Forbes still lives in his home.

Forbes’ portrait is displayed in the National Galleries of Scotland. And he received the Top Scot award at the 2012 Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards.

This entire saga happened before Trump became the most powerful man in the free world.

Trump served as president for four years after winning the 2016 US election.

But Trump lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden after a series of scandals while in the White House.

However, Trump is now running against Biden again in this year’s November elections.

He is currently campaigning again after surviving an assassination attempt last week.
