ARMCHAIR golf fans were surprised by the blurry view of the rain-hit Royal Troon.

Observers likened television coverage of the third day of The Open to “watching through a bathroom window”.

Fans’ admiration for the players and spectators during the rain was mixed with criticism of the obscure offering on their screens.

And viewers begged camera operators to clean the smudges… off the lenses.

Some fans even thought the towels would solve the problem of cameras becoming like “untreated windshields.”

Irishman Shane Lowry and English ace Daniel Brown battled to stay in the lead amid the terrible weather.

But some viewers were transfixed by the dubious, rainy sight shown on TV.

One posted: “Hey open camera people: it rains often in Scotland. Wipe the damn rain off the lenses so we can see. How many years have you been doing this?”

Another asked: “Can someone PLEASE get some towels for those tower cameras?”

But a third observer made a slightly more high-tech suggestion.

He said, “Hey NBC, can you suggest to The Open camera crew that they put Rain•X on EVERY camera lens!!? No, seriously, it’s like an untreated windshield and it’s just smudged and smudged.” of water on the lenses.”

A fourth fan commented: “The rain is now so heavy at The Open it’s like watching every scene through your bathroom window. Thank goodness for that HD TV package.”

Maybe, in this case, HD stands for Heavy Downpour…

One spectator, however, congratulated himself for having chosen the right location for the exhibition.

He posted: “Man am I glad I watched the Open Championship in bed while it pours rain at Royal Troon.”

But he was sympathetic to the windswept observers at the Links course on the coast in Scotland’s Firth of Clyde in Ayrshire.

From their own cozy vantage point, the viewer posted: “It looks miserable out there. Props to the people in attendance who are hanging in there.”
