PHIL Mickelson and Tiger Woods haven’t faced each other since the left-hander left for LIV Golf.

The two were seen walking side by side, but Mickelson was quick to make it clear that nothing special was said.

Mickelson said the two greeted each other but did not speak while they were together on the driving range.

“We said hi,” Mickelson told Golf Channel.

“Yeah, we said hi, but we were both getting ready. It’s not like we were going to sit there and talk. But we said hello, yeah.”

The two golfers were never close friends, but tended to become enemies after Mickelson defected to LIV.

Woods is a PGA Tour legend and a member of its political council, while Mickelson is a top recruiter for LIV.

At one point, the PGA and LIV tried to merge, but talk around it slowed down.

Mickelson declined to share any thoughts on the merger when asked.

“I don’t know about that stuff,” Mickelson said.

“I’m not involved. I’m not sitting in these rooms. I’m enjoying where I am, what I’m doing and playing.

“I’ll let other people figure these things out.”

Woods missed the cut at the British Open, making 14 shots, a continuation of his difficult form.

Mickelson finished the weekend at 11 under, tied for 60th among competitors.

Xander Schauffele won the Open in his second major championship of the season.

He won the PGA Championship earlier this year.

Their two wins helped the Americans win all four major championships for the first time since 1982.

“It took me forever just to win one, and to have two now is something else,” Schauffele said after the round.

Justin Rose, a 43-year-old Englishman, finished second in the weekend’s race.

“Two emotions,” said Rose.

“Destroyed when I left the course. It hit me hard because I was really strong there today.

“I really played the way I wanted today. I started on the front foot. I played straight into the tournament, early doors. I felt comfortable with that all day.

“I left it all out there. That’s the deal I made with myself today – to leave with no regrets.”
