FORMER Ryder Cup star Paul Broadhurst surprisingly MISSED THE BALL at the Seniors Open when attempting a simple tap-in.

But he could have ended the day tied for the lead alongside Canadian Stephen Ames had he not made a rookie mistake.
Needing to hit over the hole to secure par, Broadhurst shocked golf fans by completely missing the ball before making his second attempt.
The commenter said, “Well, to me that’s an attempted stroke.”
And indeed, this is how Broadhurst suffered the most unlikely of tricks after admitting his mistake.
Speaking with Celestial sports After the incident, Broadhurst, who competed in the 1991 Ryder Cup, said: “I made a mess of it in seventh.
“I had to declare a penalty for myself. I made a shot outdoors.
“I do not know what happened. I don’t know if my balance wasn’t right, I should have given up.
“But my stick went over the ball and past it, so I checked with the umpire.

“I made a legitimate attempt to throw the ball, so I had to pay.”
Reacting to the bizarre moment, one fan said: “He’s just like me.”
Another added: “It’s because he looks at the hole when he takes a shot…..”
A third responded: “Not smart.”
While a stunned fourth responded: “Did he tell you that?”
Broadhurst’s 1991 Ryder Cup appearance ended in disappointment, with the USA winning by one point in South Carolina.
The Walsall-born golfer’s best major results came 17 years apart at The Open, where he finished 12th in 1990 and 2007.
