DIVINE PRESENCE (4:45 am Newbury, nap)

John and Thady Gosden’s daughter of Classic winner Dubawi could really excel at this distance. She was slowly brought to Clarehaven and we had to wait until December of her two-year-old season for her debut. This was clearly just a sighting as she was fourth on the sand at Lingfield in an obviously unsuitable seven furlongs. And few questions were asked about her return in May, when she returned home in her own time to Newmarket. Things got a little more serious in Bath two races ago, where she crashed in a photo when looking green in the closing stages. This dropped her into handicaps with a fair mark of 75 and it was no surprise to see her go off the mark at Wolver. She was worth more than her neck’s margin of victory, especially since she was sleeping in the stalls and still looked inexperienced. The Gosdens get the cheeks today – which might help her focus – and the extra stadium should be right up her street. She has gained 5 pounds but can improve well beyond that mark.

PRINCIPALITY (4.10 Newbury, nb)

Was deemed good enough to be sent off at just 4-1 for the sizzling Group 2 Railway Stakes at The Curragh last time out. He has failed to get coach Richard Hannon right and this seems a more suitable level. He earned his place at The Curragh with an excellent scoring performance at Goodwood last month. He posted a good time during this six-furlong trip and looks capable of improving today.

KALAMA SUNRISE (2.05 Haydock, treble)

She set four fantastic times in low-grade handicaps like these before an unlucky second at Chepstow last time out. Jack Channon’s filly is the best at this distance and, thanks to not scoring last time, she is just 3lb better than that smart run. It likes to tank up front, handles any terrain and will have plenty of grip again.

REAL ELYSIAN (3.15 Haydock)

She ran well when third in this trip at Newmarket when she left her challenge a little too late. The softer ground here will bring its toughness to the game and manager James Ferguson is in good form.
