As Mets in the middle of a brutal 10-game road trip, manager Carlos Mendoza had some updates on several players they hope will play a role in their late-season playoff run.
In the first place, Francisco Álvarez is not in Tuesday’s lineup because Mendoza wanted to give his young catcher a day off after back-to-back games in two different cities.
-Relievers Reed Garrett It is Sean Reid-Foley, both are expected to pitch at least one more game each this week. When asked if these games would be the last rehab games for them, Mendoza said “we’ll see how it goes.”
–Dedniel Nuñez (right pronator strain) pitched from 90 feet on Tuesday and the Mets hope he can take the mound and throw a bullpen later in the week.
-And finally, Mars Starling will DH for Port St. Lucie on Wednesday.
Christian Scott Update
It’s been two weeks since the Mets shut down their pitching prospect Christian Scott and Mendoza gave a positive update on the young right-hander.
He said Scott is “feeling better” but has not yet started a throwing program.
“This should happen in the next few days,” Mendoza said. “We are getting positive results there. Hopefully he will begin a pitching progression in the next few days.”
Mendoza said they will have a better idea of his timeline once he starts pitching, but they are committed to doing what’s right for the player rather than rushing him back to help him in the playoffs.
Scott was placed on the IL on July 23 with a right UCL sprain.
