Before Saturday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners, the Mets reliever activated Reed Garrett from the injured list and optional left-hander Alex Young to Triple-A Syracuse.

Garrett was expected to return at some point this weekend after completing his rehab and joining the team in Seattle, and now they’ve made the move official.

The right-hander ends up missing exactly a month after feeling inflammation in his right elbow following a difficult game in which he allowed three runs in just two-thirds of an inning of work against the Nationals.

Garrett will certainly be a welcome addition to the backend of the Mets’ revamped bullpen, as he has put up a strong 3.64 ERA in 36 starts this season.

Young losing in his place is a bit unlucky, as he has pitched relatively well since being recalled from Triple-A, allowing just one earned run and striking out six in his seven starts.

The left-hander could return to the mix in the big leagues at some point later this season if Danny Young he fights and also finds his way back to Syracuse.

The Mets will have two more difficult decisions to make in the near future, also with relievers Dedniel Nuñez and Sean Reid-Foley closing their own returns from the injured list.
