Melvin Provides Lee Injury Update After Giants Outfielder Exits Game originally appeared in NBC Sports Bay Area

The Giants defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday at Oracle Park, but lost a key player early in the process in Jung Hoo Lee hit the outside wall.

San Francisco later announced that Lee left the game with a strained left shoulder, but manager Bob Melvin provided a more substantial update following the Giants’ loss. eventual victory by 6–5 extra innings.

“Not great,” Melvin told reporters when asked how Lee was doing, adding over the outfielder’s shoulder: “It’s separated.”

“So he’s going to get an MRI,” Melvin continued. “We’ll take a look and see where he is tomorrow, but not very well.”

Melvin knew it was bad news for Lee and the Giants, who had recently lost a plethora of players to the injured list immediately following the play.

“Well, I mean, [Lee] does everything,” Melvin told reporters. “You never know with the wind here – sometimes it pushes [the ball], sometimes it kills. But when he hit the wall and fell and didn’t get up, I didn’t have a good feeling about it.”

Before Lee suffered a shoulder injury on Sunday, the Giants’ offseason and everyday star the leadoff hitter was cutting .262/.310/.331. And with the all-out effort he puts in in the outfield, San Francisco certainly hopes to have Lee back sooner rather than later.
