It was a long and windy road back to Yankees field player DJ Le Mahieubut it looks like he’s finally ready to take the next step to potentially make his season debut.

The veteran has been sidelined all season since suffering a non-displaced fracture following a ball foul in his right foot late in spring training.

LeMahieu appeared to be progressing well, but was pulled after just one at-bat and one inning after experiencing new pain in his foot during his first rehab appearance.

After shutting things down for a few days and then getting back to work, it looks like the 35-year-old might be ready to attempt another return to gaming action.

LeMahieu will have a full workout with Double-A Somerset on Thursday afternoon and, if all goes well, he hopes to begin a rehab assignment as early as Friday.

The Yankees don’t have an exact timeline for when they will feel comfortable with the former batting champion returning, but it will likely take a while with the long layoff.

We don’t have a hard and fast number on him, but we definitely want him to play and put on some volume, so we’ll see how comfortable he feels hitting.” Aaron Boone he said.

Although LeMahieu is coming off a slow 2023 campaign, getting him back healthy and in the mix would be a nice boost to the Yankees lineup.
