Rafael Devers set a new team record Monday night in Florida.
The Boston Red Sox star has been unstoppable so far this season and shows no signs of slowing down.
Devers hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning of Monday’s 5-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. It was the sixth consecutive game in which Devers had hit a home run, setting a new Red Sox record and giving him the longest hitting streak in Major League Baseball this season.
Devers’ streak began in a 4-3 loss to the Rays at Fenway Park last week. Although the Red Sox only won twice during his run, Devers hit a home run each time. He tied the team record with a two-run shot in the sixth inning of an 11-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday that broke the season record for losses in four games.
Six other Red Sox players have hit a home run in five consecutive games. Bobby Dalbec was the most recent player to do so in 2020. Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout has hit a seven-game hitting streak in 2022. The MLB record is eight games, and was most recently done by Ken Griffey Jr.
Devers has hit 10 home runs this season and has recorded one hit in the Red Sox’s last 10 games. His six-game home run streak was also the longest by a third baseman in the last 100 years. according to ESPN.
Devers entered Monday with a .285 batting average, a career-high .384 OBP and a .555 slugging percentage. The 27-year-old has 23 RBI so far this season, eighth in Boston as well. The Red Sox’ win on Monday brought them back to 24-24 on the year, even though they are fourth in the AL East standings.
