Yankees outfielder Jason Dominguez continues to progress well as he returns from Tommy John surgery.

The former top overall prospect in baseball played the outfield for the first time during his recovery earlier this week and is settling into a good rhythm as he finds his timing at the plate.

“I feel really good,” Dominguez told reporters Friday. “My arm is really good now. The progression has been great. We’re just taking things day by day and every day I feel a little better.”

That certainly showed, as Dominguez extended his Double-A hitting streak to eight games with a monstrous two-run home run to left field on Friday night, and he’s now hitting .348 with a .977 OPS in 12 rehab appearances.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone also seems happy with how the young outfielder has progressed on his road to recovery.

“He’s in a good position,” the big league captain said. “He had a very good rehabilitation as everything went well, he wasn’t rushed, he was built properly. So he’s in a really good situation right now.”

Dominguez’s 20-day term is set to expire early this week, and while he looks ready and has been killing it lately, it’s unlikely he’ll return to the big league roster at this point.

With Aaron Judge, Alex VerdugoIt is Juan Soto blocked in the top three outfield spots and Trent Grisham Maintaining the role of fourth outfielder there is simply no room for the youngster.

While he would love to return to the show as soon as possible, Dominguez understands the situation is out of his control.

“I can’t control it,” he said. “It is what it is, I’m just playing and I keep progressing every day and when the time comes we’ll see what happens.”
