Watch: Seiya Suzuki redeems costly mistake with incredible home run originally appeared in NBC Sports Chicago

Chicago puppies right defender Seiya Suzuki left Wrigley Field stunned on two occasions Saturday night against the Cincinnati Reds, and he managed to experience both the lows and the highs in a single inning.

Suzuki was patrolling right field during the second inning of Saturday’s game when Luke Maile lifted a ball that appeared to be headed toward an inning-ending catch.

Instead, Suzuki dropped the ball and three runs were able to score, with the Reds accumulating four runs thanks to the expensive play.

Incredibly, Suzuki had a chance to redeem himself in the bottom of the second inning, coming in with the bases loaded and two outs. With the count full and with the Wrigley faithful reaching their peak, Suzuki took it to the field and promptly tied the game with an imposing grand slam:

The grand slam was the first of Suzuki’s career and helped immediately erase a defensive lapse that threatened to hurt the Cubs’ chances. Instead, Chicago would win the game thanks to an eighth-inning home run from Dansby Swansongiving themselves a chance for a series win on Sunday afternoon at Friendly Confines.
