Mike Tauchman leaves Cubs game against Giants due to injury originally appeared in NBC Sports Chicago

O Chicago puppies‘the lineup has struggled to score runs recently, and Mike Tauchmanone of the team’s best hitters, was forced to leave Monday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

Tauchman, who leads the Cubs with a .354 on-base percentage on the season, was injured while running to first base in the third inning of the contest.

Tauchman reached first on an infield single, but immediately flagged down coaches after passing the bag. He was replaced by Wisdom Patricia, who assumed the designated hitter role for the rest of the game.

In 65 games this season, Tauchman has five home runs and 19 RBIs. He’s slashing .256/.354/.379 for the Cubs and has drawn 32 hits in 219 at-bats on the year.

It’s unclear who will replace Tauchman on the Cubs’ roster if he is forced onto the injured list. Alexandre Canário left the Iowa game on Saturday and the team has not yet updated his status. Brennen Davis, who hit 10 home runs this season at Iowa, hasn’t played since Tuesday.

Outfielder Owen Caissie is hammering the ball at Triple-A, but would have to be added to the team’s 40-man roster to be called up. This would probably leave Miles Mastrobuoni as an option, with Pete Crow-Armstrong It is Michael Busch getting additional game time.
