Before Saturday afternoon’s game against the Kansas City Royals Mets manager Carlos Mendoza provided some injury updates.
Kodai Senga is expected to throw from 120 feet on Saturday afternoon as he continues to recover from a post-cap strain he suffered midway through spring training.
The right-hander has yet to throw a bullpen session, but is throwing all of his pitches and has progressed to throwing a lot without the catcher crouching.
Senga appears to be headed in the right direction, but after being moved to the 60-day IL to secure a roster spot this week, the earliest he can return to the big league rotation is May 27.
JD Martinezon the other hand, continues to make slow progress after dealing with some total body soreness during his rise through the minor leagues to prepare for his Mets debut.
The skipper did not have many updates to provide on the veteran batsman’s status as he is yet to engage in any physical activity since receiving a cortisone injection for lower back stiffness just a few days ago.
Mendoza said the other day that it would probably take Martinez about 3 to 5 days to start swinging and moving forward again, depending on how his body responds to the shot.
Lastly, Sean Reid-Foley is on track to pitch an inning Sunday with the Brooklyn Cyclones as he continues his recovery from a right shoulder injury.
Reid-Foley allowed just two runs and struck out seven in five spring appearances.
