The Yankees really struggled.

The starting rotation has generally been good questions for the bullpen, but the Yankees were cold early last night and that’s the context for everyone.
Which was a fascinating case in Queens, Gerrit Cole on the mound for the Yankees making his second start in the IL and he killed it, okay. Four home runs from Garrett Cole, two from third baseman Mark Vientos, one from Harrison Bader and one from Brandon Nimmo Mets take the lead.
Aaron Judge hits a grand slam in the eighth inning to cut the lead to two, but the Mets hold on for a 9-7 win.
Uh, looking back at this bar score, what stands out to me isn’t four home runs, it’s zero strikeouts.
It’s like we’ve seen Garrett Cole, you know, give up some, some homers that are at his best, you know, he can, he can give them up, but four walks with zero strikeouts to Garrett Cole and I understand that he’s, he’s a little rusty.
That is good.
I’m not, I’m not saying he’s doomed.
I’m not saying he’s the worst pitcher in baseball.
Either way, any version of Garrett Cole with zero strikeouts in his major league start is pretty shocking to look at.
I mean, honestly, the fact that he made it through four innings feels like an accomplishment.
To be honest, all that matters is that Garrett Cole, when he gets the ball in his first postseason start, feels like Garrett Cole last night was a huge reminder that he’s still not Garrett Cole.
This isn’t a surprise, right?
And so Mike Petrello tweeted, it’s not careless that he’s playing 93.
Yeah, I just, it’ll be concerning to me if he’s throwing 93 a month from now and he’s got no hits a month from now.
