When the Chicago Cubs brought in much-desired manager Craig Counsell, the thought was that there could be joy in Wrigleyville in 2024. However, after a difficult stretch for the Cubbies, they now find themselves with the third-worst record in the National League and potentially in a position to be sellers with a negotiation deadline.
Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about what’s gone wrong lately for the Cubs and how it’s put them in contention for the third wild card spot in the NL, but they still have 5.5 games to go. They also compare this season to the Cubs’ 2023 season, when they entered on a high note and decided not to sell at the deadline. Have they learned their lesson or will they make the same mistake twice?
Later in this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys join Pittsburgh Pirates social media success Saxboy to talk about how his enthusiasm for the game of baseball and the Steel City has grown with the Pirates’ success. He talks about going on the road and following the club closely, as well as a fun interaction with Pirates GM Ben Cherington at an airport.
Jake and Jordan also enter the offensive struggles of the Mariners, who have benefited from excellent starting pitching, unicorn prospect James Wood making his Washington Nationals debut, Aaron Civale being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, and paying tribute to the late Orlando Cepeda.
