Nick Castellanos Finds the Perfect Way to Welcome Sixers’ Paul George to Philadelphia originally appeared in NBC Sports Philadelphia
Get out of the way Bryce HarperWe have a new panderer on the Phillies.
Just kidding – but what Nick Castellanos What he did on Tuesday, before he and the club began a three-game series against the Dodgers, was very good.
Castellanos has his own draw on July 14, the last game before the All-Star break. It is a basketball jersey that will be distributed to children up to 14 years old. To help with the promotion, they were distributed in the clubhouse before the Phillies began batting practice for the day. Naturally, at least 85% of the team wore them.
Individual player promotional items are always a treat – sometimes you’ll see shirts, bobbleheads, bandanas… but the basketball jersey is definitely fun.
It has Castellanos’ name on the back along with his number 8. But since when the Phillies first announced the draw, there is now a new athlete in town who will represent the number 8 on a basketball jersey – Paulo Jorge.
In the early stages of NBA free agency, George agreed to a four-year contract that would land him with the Sixers.
And Castellanos had the perfect way to welcome him… engraving his own name and writing “George” over it.
George even quickly acknowledged this on his Instagram, tagging the Phillies right fielder:
What a fun way to welcome you to the city.
