Yahoo Sports Senior MLB Analyst Jake Mintz reacts to MLB’s 2024 All-Stars Futures Game, which saw the NL beat the AL 6-1.

Video transcript

They’re getting ready for the celebrity softball game behind me.

All Star Saturday is always one of the strangest days of the MLB season. Previously, they did the MLB Futures game, which is the league’s showcase game for top prospects in the minor leagues.

And now the music is absolutely intense, but let’s talk about the Futures game, the national league at 16 to one.

So all you American League fans go to work on Monday pissed as hell, highlights from the game, Rangers starter Emiliano Toto came out and got six strikeouts in the first two innings on just 14 pitches.

He was throwing sinkers at 100 miles an hour.

It was a lot of fun to watch for a guy who would be in their leagues at some point next season.

The game’s MVP was third baseman Camp Collier, a prospect for the Reds.

He hit a 409-foot home run in the third inning to open the scoring and the hardest pitch of the day was thrown by Mets prospect Brandon Sprout, passing that thing at 100 miles per hour, which is how fast I go drive home so I can get my hearing back.

I’m kidding.

To be honest, this year’s edition of the Futures Game was fun.

There really was no defining moment.

Like when Mason threw a ball at 100 miles per hour in Los Angeles or Pete Alonso hit a ball to the moon in DC in 2018.

But just having the opportunity to see these young players compete and perform on a big stage is always worth it.
