Mets sign catcher Logan Porter to split contract

O Mets are signing the catcher Logan Porter to a split contract, with Porter set to report to Triple-A Syracuse.

Porter will provide Mets insurance for Francisco Álvarez It is Luis Torrens.

Because it is a split contract between minor league and major league, the Mets will have to make room on the 40-man roster (which is currently full) for Porter.

Porter, 29, made his major league debut last season with the Kansas City Royals, hitting .194/.324/.323 in 38 games across 11 games.

In six minor league seasons, Porter hit .277/.401/.466 with 58 homers in 431 games.
