Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed that right-handed Tylor Megill will be called up to play on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves.
Andy Martino of SNY reported on Baseball Night in NY on Wednesday that it was “probably” Megill who got the call, and the Mets captain has now made it official.
Megill will be taking Christian Scottthe spot in the rotation, with Scott hitting the IL due to a UCL sprain.
With Kodai Senga With everything ready for his return to the mound on Friday night, the Mets will move to a six-man rotation, meaning Megill will likely remain in the rotation until Scott, who has been unable to pitch for two weeks, eventually returns.
Megill, 28, last pitched in the majors on June 29, when he allowed four earned runs in 5.1 innings against the Houston Astros. Overall this season, Megill started eight major league games, pitching to a 5.08 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He struggled in his final five starts before being shut down, pitching to a 7.43 ERA to go along with a 1.74 WHIP.
Megill’s career numbers are better than what he has put up this season, as he has a 4.76 ERA in 66 career appearances (60 starts).
