O Mets are bolstering their bullpen ahead of the 2024 trade deadline.

According to Andy Martino of SNY, the Mets are acquiring the right-hander Ryne Stanek from the Seattle Mariners to minor league outfielder Rhylan Thomas.

Stanek, 33, was having a solid season with the Mariners. In 46 starts, Stanek pitched to a 4.38 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. He also has 44 strikeouts in 39.0 innings pitched. Stanek made seven saves in 11 opportunities, so he has that ability in the late innings.

The move comes hours after the Mets placed Dedniel Nuñez on the IL with an elbow strain and Martino’s report on Friday that the Mets are “moving forward” this deadline season.

Stanek is the second reliever the Mets have acquired this season after New York traded for RHP Phil Maton from the Tampa Bay Rays in early July.

Thomas, 24, slashed .265/.318/.387 with five home runs and 31 RBI this season between Double-A and Triple-A. The Mets drafted him in the 11th round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of USC.
