O Mets announced on Friday that they traded the right-handed pitcher Cole Sulser to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash payments.
The move comes days after the Mets designated Sulser for assignment to make room for the catcher Logan Porterwith whom they signed a major league contract and were assigned to Triple-A Syracuse.
Sulser, 34, played in four games for the Mets this season but spent most of the season with Syracuse. In four major league games, Sulser had a 9.64 ERA.
While the Mets likely have a more substantial trade deadline, Tampa Bay is already hinting at being sellers this season despite the deal with New York. The Rays have already traded Randy Arozarena for the Seattle Mariners and Zach Eflin for the Baltimore Orioles.
The Mets and Rays already made a deal this season when they traded RPH Phil Maton to Queens in early July.
The 2024 MLB trade deadline is Tuesday, July 30th at 6:00 PM ET.
